My goal with this blog to share my experience as a (professional) cardiologist and (amateur) endurance athlete, and provide science-based answers to questions regarding sport, exercise, and the heart. I imagine that many of you reading this blog – either as athletes, students, patients, or otherwise – are interested in answers to many of the same questions that continue to fuel my professional and personal interests in exercise and athletics… from the general: How does exercise affect the heart? How does it affect health? Is it possible to exercise too much or too hard? To the specific: Is there benefit to starting vigorous exercise in middle-age? …is it safe? What is the science between high-intensity interval training (HIIT)? Is low-carbohydrate (low-glycogen) training beneficial? What is Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and should I be incorporating it into my training?
But I should stop before I get too far ahead of myself. Too many good things to get into. Thanks for coming along with me – and if you have questions or topics you’d like me to address, or suggestions to improve the blog/site, send me an email ([email protected]) or write it in the comments!
