I am a cardiologist and currently a fellow in Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) at the Cleveland Clinic. My specific research interest is the overlap of cardiac arrhythmias and athletics, but I have also spent time exploring broader topics of sports cardiology, including the relationship between fitness and mortality. These professional interests have been spurred by my longtime love for endurance sports – primarily cycling, but running and triathlon as well. I would consider myself a middle-of-the-pack endurance athlete, but over the years I have had the tremendous opportunity to work with athletes of all abilities as a physician and cardiologist.
My goal with this blog is to share my experience studying the complex relationship between exercise and cardiovascular health (and disease) and treating athletes with heart conditions. There is a tremendous amount of information on these topics in various forms – whether in print or on the internet – but the quality of information and the supporting data can often be lacking (or nonexistent!). These posts will be founded in the most current scientific research on a given topic, hopefully distilled into impactful posts that are readable and beneficial to readers of a wide range of personal, educational and scientific backgrounds.
Hopefully you enjoy these topics and posts – and if you have specific questions, suggestions for topics, or just suggestions to improve the blog/site, make sure to send an email or comment!
